STRHA Board held a meeting August 19, 2017 during the camping weekend at the Mardell Roger’s farm. President Randy Fadely brought the meeting to order. Board members present were Randy Fadely, Ellie Hamman, Casey Poor, Eric Reiley, Sharon and Phil Estep, Jane Johnson, Susan St Amand, and Mark Feaster. Ellie presented the Treasurer’s Report covering the time period since the last board meeting and it was accepted as read.
Old Business- The Product 31 party was a success and raised $366 for the club. A discussion about the 4-H camp being a great success resulting in a motion for the club to donate $250 again next year. It was seconded and approved. The club decided to develop a group to go to the Wagner Farm in January and scope out some trails. The 4-H Center trails have been put on hold at this time.
New Business – The club Christmas party will be December 2nd at 6pm at the Woodgrill in Harrisonburg. Mark Feaster is going to contact Wholesome Foods to ask about the club selling BBQ chicken and a bake sale during their Customer Appreciation Days. Jane Johnson discussed the Paint Nite party on Sept 8th The club will net $17.50 per participant. For more details see the STRHA Facebook site.
Reminder about Hunting season – it starts October 7th until Jan 6th. At Uncle Tom’s Park you are welcome to ride and park your trailer. Please ride out the front side and back the same way. Please do not ride down the backside in the woods as hunters will be there.
Rides for October through January were determined. No rides were scheduled in September due to the bees this year. When you are riding be careful and watch for those in ground bees nests.
Our next board meeting will be January 12th at Randy and Ellie’s at 6pm with pizza.

Dessert provided at Fadely Farm at end of ride. Directions: I-81 to Exit 283 (Woodstock/Rt. 42). Take Rt. 42 West (Senedo Road) to Columbia Furnace (about 7.7 miles). Take slight right onto Oak Ridge Rd/State Route 688. Fadely Farm is second driveway on left – big red barn. Ride # 541Date: Sunday. October 29, 2017 10am Place: Bucktail Trail Parking Wardensville, WV Leader: Bobby Irwin (540)335-6068 Description: 4 – 4 1/4 5 hrs. Mountain riding, some rocks, logging and road riding Bring lunch. Horses must have shoes. Directions: From I81 at Strasburg, take Rt 55 west. Go 19 miles to Wardensville. Go thru Wardensville and turn left onto Trout run Rd. In 6.5 miles Parking lot is on the left. Signs for Bucktail are right before the turn. From Columbia Furnance @ Rt 42 (total of 14.3 miles) turn right onto Rt 675 Wolf Gap Rd. Go 3 miles and bear right staying on Rt 675 – a small sign says Wardensville WV. At 14 miles cross a cement bridge and the turn right in 1/3 of a mile. You are at the parking lot. A sign for Bucktail is right before you turn right into the parking area. Park along the edge in the circular parking area.

Horses must have shoes. 5 hour ride Directions: Take Rt 55 west off I-81 at Strasburg. Rt.55 meets up with Rt.259 out of Wardensville south. Go approx 1-1.5miles out of town onto Corridor H(new road). At top of hill take the left onto Squirrel Gap Road. There is a paved parking lot on left just up the hill on squirrel Gap Road BEFORE the road turns to gravel.
Ride #543 Date: Sunday, November 12, 2017 9:30am Place: Signal Knob Leaders: Phil & Sharon Estep H#540-465-3972 or cell#540-758-3972 Description: Pack a lunch – Shoes on horses needed. Rocky Trail. Short loop about 3 hour ride. Directions: From Strasburg go to RT 55 East toward Front Royal, approximately 5 miles turn right onto Fort Valley Rd toward Elizabeth Furnace. Go 4.5 miles and go passed Elizabeth Furnace Family campground on left and start looking for next parking lot on the right.
